About Brad

I'm a lifelong West Michigander. I grew up here, graduated from Zeeland High School and then Hope College, and spent eighteen years as a community banker in the Zeeland area — which is also where I met my wife, Carol.
That work led to public service. I served five years as Zeeland Township Supervisor and twelve as Ottawa County Treasurer before our neighbors sent me to Lansing. In the Michigan House I chair the Appropriations subcommittee on Corrections and Judiciary, and I'm vice chair of the State and Local Transportation subcommittee. The job in Lansing is the same one I've always had: listen carefully, do the math, and vote for what's best for our community.
Carol and I have been married forty-one years. We raised three children here, who are all grown now, and we attend Ridge Point Community Church in Holland. This is home — it's why the work matters to me.

Where I Stand
A short, plain statement on each — what I believe, why, and what I’m doing about it.

A state budget should balance the way a family budget balances — fund what works, and don't spend money we haven't earned.

Election Dates
Make a plan to vote. Here are the dates that matter for the August primary and the November general — including when absentee ballots go out. Dates already behind us are marked as passed.
Tuesday, August 4, 2026
Clerks start mailing absentee ballots to voters with a request on file — about 40 days out. Not on the list yet? Request a ballot at michigan.gov/vote.
Last day to register online or by mail. You can still register in person — through Election Day — at your city or township clerk's office with proof of residency.
At least nine days of early voting at your designated early-voting site. Hours vary by community — check with your clerk.
Mailed requests must reach your clerk by 5:00 p.m. After this, request and vote an absentee ballot in person at the clerk's office through Election Day.
Polls are open 7:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m. Absentee ballots must be returned to your clerk by 8:00 p.m. — bring them in person once it's this close.
